Reiki
Reiki is an energy therapy recognised by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words for 'universal life energy' and 'natural healing'.
What does Reiki do?
We live in a world of energy that nourishes and maintains all living things. When this energy flows uninterrupted there is balance and harmony within and around us and we experience a sense of wellbeing. In essence Reiki works at bringing us back into balance and is believed therefore to reinforce the body's natural ability to heal itself at all levels, whether physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system (1).
What happens during a session?
A treatment is received lying down or sitting, with the person fully clothed. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-obtrusive positions on the body or near it.
What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki tends to have a very relaxing effect and can be helpful when a person is experiencing stress, feelings of overwhelm oe a sense of disconnection or isolation. It can bring feelings of peace, centeredness, and an ability to cope better with the challenges of life.
Reiki can also be beneficial for people dealing with with long term conditions, helping to bring comfort, acceptance and a more positive outlook.
Distance healing with Reiki
According to quantum physics principles energy is not bound by space or time. A Reiki healing session can therefore be done from any distance. There is no need for a person to be physically present with the therapist to experience the same benefits from a session. There is now a good body of scientific evidence that confirms the effect of distance healing. I am in the process of gathering references that I will share for those who would like to know more about this.
